Above: A Great Gray Owl

Owls live in the Coniferous Forest. They have many adaptations that help them survive while living in the forest. One of these adaptations are powerful talons. Owls developed strong talons to be able to catch and kill prey. This adaptation was necessary in order to obtain food to survive, and without powerful talons, Owls wouldn't be able to obtain food nearly as efficiently. Another adaptation is the color of owl feathers. Owl feathers are camouflage to help them blend into their environment; this adaptation not only helps them remain hidden from prey in order to get their prey easier, but it also helps them hide from their predators, or from possible threats such as humans. Without that adaptation, we could all spot owls much easier, and prey could potentially escape death from owls much easier, being that they could spot them better. Yet another adaptation is their quietness when flying. This can be helpful for many reasons - It can keep prey from hearing them arriving, it can keep themselves from causing a disturbance in the forest with noise, and potentially wake predators or other inhabitants, it can also allow them to fly quieter in order to keep themselves from being noticed, which could be useful if they want to avoid predators or again, catch prey. Without it, they could be noticed much easier by everything and would not be able to hunt as efficiently or travel as unnoticed as they do. All of these adaptations help the Owl survive in the forest by giving them advantages in hunting, traveling, and avoiding detection, all of which are important to survival.
